Highlanders Deliver Statement 48-0 Victory Over WarHawks: A Dominant Display of Team Power
WINTER PARK, FL - The Dunedin Highlanders made a statement this past Saturday, March 15, 2025, with a dominant 48-0 victory over the Florida WarHawks. What initially appeared to be a slow start quickly turned into a total dismantling of the WarHawks, as the Highlanders showed off their depth, talent, and chemistry across all phases of the game.
Highlanders set the tone early with dominant defensive play
The Highlanders’ defense set the tone early, coming up with a huge play just as the WarHawks looked to build momentum. Defensive lineman Tony Colon recovered a fumble on WarHawks 5-yard line, giving the Highlanders a golden scoring opportunity. It didn’t take long for the offense to capitalize.
Michael Minges shines with three-touchdown performance
Wide receiver Michael Minges emerged as the star of the day, grabbing three consecutive touchdowns to push Dunedin to a commanding 21-0 lead. His play was electric, and it energized the entire team. After the game, Minges shared his thoughts on his performance: "I did what I had to do when it came to looking for open spots on the field. Nate Munson and I were able to read the DBs, and we were on the same page the whole time, which helped a lot in getting those touchdowns."
Isaiah Thomas contributes key plays in Highlanders’ victory
Minges’ stellar performance earned him the Highlander Player of the Game honors, but he wasn’t the only one shining on the offensive side of the ball. Isaiah Thomas made key contributions, particularly setting up Minges' second touchdown with a 33-yard punt return. Later in the game, Thomas would also get on the scoreboard himself, racking up a 20-yard touchdown just before the half.
Munson’s dual-threat ability powers the Highlanders’ offense
While the passing game was electric, the Highlanders' running attack also showed signs of life. Running back Mareece "Rampage" Sturgis churned out some big runs, helping to keep the defense honest. But it was Quarterback Nate Munson who truly impressed. Not only did Munson throw for five touchdowns, but he also ran for one of his own, showcasing his dual-threat ability and further cementing his place as one of the league's top quarterbacks.
Defensive line dominates: Highlanders sacks and shutdowns
The defense was absolutely relentless. Dunedin's defensive front wreaked havoc on the WarHawks' offense all game long. Defensive end Cody Shelhamer, who had a standout performance, contributed with a touchdown after a botched punt in the first half. Shelhamer’s impact didn’t stop there, as he and teammates Matthew Stewart, Marshall O'Brien, Dylan Morse, and Nate Huegel combined for several crucial sacks and tackles, continuously putting pressure on the WarHawks' quarterback. The defensive unit’s ability to shut down any offensive momentum kept the WarHawks from finding their rhythm all afternoon.
Special teams standout: Justin Lawrence’s perfect day
On special teams, the Highlanders were just as impressive. Kicker Justin Lawrence continued his perfect season, going 6/6 on extra points and field goals, marking a career-best performance. His consistency has been a key part of the Highlanders' success this year, and Saturday’s performance only reinforced that. Kickoff specialist Cliff Lespinasse also had a big day, delivering two touchbacks and consistently putting the WarHawks in difficult field positions with his powerful kicks.
Nate Munson and Tristan Shiver close the game with spectacular touchdown
As the game wound down, the final highlight was a play that will be remembered for years to come. With just minutes left, quarterback Nate Munson found wide receiver Tristan Shiver for a jaw-dropping 32-yard touchdown. Shiver made an acrobatic catch in the end zone, sealing the game in spectacular fashion and putting the finishing touches on a dominant team performance.
